The sky’s the limit at the Aviation Careers Forum for Women

At Certis Australia, our work in aviation security is almost as old as the company itself. Certis' relationship with Sydney Airport alone goes back over 50 years, not to mention our proven track record gathered from decades of experience working with airports such as Singapore’s Changi Airport and Qatar’s Hamad International Airport.

Recently, some of our colleagues based at Sydney Airport had the chance to share their personal career experiences at Flightdeck’s Empowering & Enabling Aviation Careers Forum for Women. The one-day event in Sydney is an important initiative to inspire and guide women based in Western Sydney towards fulfilling careers in aviation, which has been traditionally a male-dominated field.

The event was a huge success, with over 100 community members and 50 industry representatives coming together to share inspiring career experiences, employment pathways and job opportunities in aviation, from cabin crew, pilots and engineering to border force, information technology and security screening.

The day unfolded with insightful presentations from major players including the Western Sydney Airport. This was followed by Table Talks, a session where participants got to interact directly with industry representatives.

Certis Australia was ably represented by Aviation Screening Officer Jessica Thai, Duty Shift Supervisor Sandra Maure, Security Service Manager Maddison Paton, Team Leader Joanna Ly as well as Talent Acquisition Consultants Toni Javidi and Viky Mercouris.

The team spent time with dozens of attendees, offering insights into their careers and day-to-day moments on the job, sharing their enthusiasm and encouraging fellow women who could well be prospective colleagues.

Reflecting on the event, Maddison Paton shared: “It was incredibly inspiring, and a great way to feel connected to women in all parts of aviation.”

Toni Javidi was particularly energised by the stories of women who have broken ground in the Australian aviation industry, often paving the way for others by being the first in their field. “We’ve come so far, but not far enough. It was incredible that so many powerful women took the time to come in and inspire all of us,” she explained.
