Airport security is continually under intense scrutiny. Finding a security partner you can trust implicitly is vital.
SNP Security, the aviation arm of Certis Security Australia, has been Sydney Airport’s security partner for more than 50 years, and Tom Roche, Senior Managing Director, Certis Security Australia, attributes the longevity of the relationship to the fact that it’s built upon transparency, openness, trust and a mindset of continuous improvement.
Much has changed in the past 50 years. SNP Security started passenger screening in 1968. Within a few years, mobile walk-through metal detectors were used at select departure gates, and in 1984, Tom Roche began working as a screening officer at Sydney Airport. At that time, there were only 18 departing international flights a day.
Fast forward to 2019 and Australia’s gateway is handling more than 44 million passengers per year with an on-airport community of more than 32,000 people.
Our half-century relationship with Australia’s largest and busiest airport remains as robust as ever. Our unwavering commitment to innovation, training excellence and customer service are key values shared by Sydney Airport.
At the leading edge
Our staff are supported in their work by a full, in-house training facility that features five classrooms and computer labs. We also utilise a unique simulation floor that recreates a security screening point with the latest systems and environmental stresses of a busy terminal. (I have also included images in the OneDrive file of the training facilities @ Syd Airport that would be great to feature alongside this article if possible)
Other in-house innovations include dynamic workforce management to match resourcing to passenger movements, the BOSS application to improve transparency and operational effectiveness, as well as ‘Randomgate’. This software is designed to help Sydney International Airport meet all requirements outlined in substantial legislative changes to aviation security, including the random and unpredictable checks on airside personnel.
The adoption of world-class technology, which also sees the use of multi-lingual tablets, portals and e-learning modules, ensures that SNP stays true to its word, to provide the aviation industry with smarter, more efficient and more connected experiences daily.
Tom Roche is looking forward to developing the partnership over the coming decades by delivering the innovation and technology available through the Certis Group.
“Now we are aligned to Certis, we share a desire to further grow our aviation footprint nationally and drive growth through development, investment in technology and exchanging global best practice,” he said.
