Smarter Security for Retail Malls
Case Study: How Far East Organization Hugely Optimises its Malls' Security with Certis

Far East Organization has a sizeable retail portfolio comprising 20 wholly owned and strata-titled establishments with over 1.5 million square feet of net lettable area in Singapore. Far East Organization has always given high importance to the safety and security of its customers, tenants and assets located within its premises.
The Challenge: Dealing with Security Vulnerabilities Across Multiple Malls
For Far East Organization, managing a retail portfolio of this size and scale requires a good understanding of the behaviors of its customers and tenants as well as careful planning, without compromising on the shopping experience of its visitors. One of the key priorities in maintaining a pleasant shopping experience is security.
To address this, Far East Organization sought to identify and employ a smart and comprehensive security system that would preempt vulnerabilities and mitigate potential/common threats such as shoplifting, vandalism, destruction of property, unruly conduct, and other acts of mischief. They also stressed that with these enhanced security solutions in place, shoppers and tenants must be assured of a safe, conducive, and non-intrusive retail experience.
The Certis Solution: Integrating Security with Advanced Technology
Using the Certis’ Business Process Re-Engineering Operations (BPRO®) framework, a robust set of solutions powered by intelligent technology was designed and deployed to help optimise the their security protocols and operations.
Leveraging our 60-year track record in security, we seamlessly orchestrate all touchpoints throughout their operations in 12 of their retail malls, integrating every aspect with a powerful multi-service, single orchestration platform at one location.
The team also installed a network of CCTV cameras, fire alarm signals and intercom systems at the carparks and entrances of these 12 retail malls, to allow for 24/7 surveillance. Monitoring of all building functions can now be conducted both centrally through a single digital platform at Certis’ Integrated Operations Centre (IOC) and at the mall’s Fire Command Centre.

The Result: Low on Manpower, High on Efficiency
The implementation of Certis’ security solutions has almost doubled manpower deployment efficiencies and resources are now better optimised. Allocating them to more critical areas ensures timely response to situational crises.
One example is the activation of CCTVs with Video Analytics Capabilities after retail malls’ business trading hours. When an intruder is detected at the mall entrance, an alert will be triggered at IOC and the nearest Security Officer will then be deployed to investigate the situation.
With the BPRO® framework, Certis is also able to continually refine the systems and processes to deliver greater cost efficiencies, improved productivity and higher customer satisfaction. When COVID-19 first hit Singapore, Far East Organization was quick to take all necessary measures to comply with new government regulations. This included the set-up of temperature-screening stations at entrances and crowd control measures. These measures were implemented in close partnership with Certis to ensure a smooth roll-out.
