SINGAPORE POLICE FORCE (SPF) held their first counter-terrorism exercise at the State Courts last Thursday afternoon on 7th December 2017.
Based on a news release by SPF, the exercise started off with the scenario of two “gunmen” walking into State Courts while opening fire at the crowd. With Auxiliary Police Officers (APOs) from the Certis CISCO, as well as staff from the State Courts, keeping the situation contained, both “gunmen” were taken down within minutes through a concerted effort by officers from the Emergency Response Team and Bukit Merah East Neighbourhood Police Centre, APOs from Certis CISCO and staff from State Courts.
"The Singapore Police Force urges all premise owners to review their response plan and exercise their staff to enhance their readiness to deal with an attack," it added in the news release.
Enhancing Building Security In Singapore
With terrorist attacks on the rise, especially within the Southeast Asian region, it is no longer a matter of ‘if’, but a matter of ‘when’ an attack will reach our shores.
On 11th September, as part of the Ministry of Home Affairs' (MHA) counter-terrorism strategy to keep Singapore safe and secure, the Infrastructure Protection Bill 2017 was introduced for First Reading in Parliament.
The Bill will require selected new buildings to integrate security measures at the initial design stage, and selected existing buildings to put security measures in place upon renovation. These buildings include those that house essential services, have high human traffic or are iconic landmarks.
With a proven track record in providing Security Consulting, the Certis Group set up its consulting arm in 1989 as part of the Singapore Government's homeland security project.
