Tom Roche supports Smith Family Challenge for 10th year

Tom Roche, Certis Security Australia’s Senior Managing Director, joined forces with fellow team members over the weekend to complete the 100km Smith Family Challenge. The challenge aims to raise money to provide educational support for disadvantaged Australian children.

The Smith Family recognises that not all children get an equal start in life and they aspire to break the cycle of disadvantage by providing educational support to children at school. Today, 1 in 7* Australian children are growing up in disadvantaged circumstances where the basics in life are hard to come by, and the Challenge aims to raise much-needed funds to provide these children with essential school books, shoes, bags and uniforms.

Now in its 12th year, The Smith Family Challenge is an annual fundraising event. Started in 2008 by a former Smith Family Board Member, Paul Tobin, the event has raised nearly $5million* to date. It is a multi-sport, 100km adventure race over two days, where teams and individuals raise money to support The Smith Family Learning for Life programs. This year the Certis Security Australia team raised over $40,000 to support the worthy cause.

Competing in his 10th challenge this year, Tom Roche is a dedicated supporter of the annual event. Tom has attended more Challenges than any other member and has raised over $117,000 in total over the years making him the highest fundraising participant. The three day 100km course is designed to be especially tough, giving participants a real sense of achievement. The core disciplines of the Challenge include mountain biking, running, kayaking and navigation.

“Even after 10 years the Challenge is as tough as the first, but the cause is worthy of the struggle. The Smith Family do a tremendous job and we are proud to be supporters” said Tom.

This year, the event raised over $900,000 through the sponsorship generated from all participants. 100% of funds raised will go directly to The Smith Family programs.
